Add and update resource type templates

1. If you are not on the Edit Resource Type Templates page, then follow the steps in the blue title bar.
2. Select what you want to do. See Resource type templates (Resource Manager).

note You need to specify for a template a Resource Type name. Note that within a subgroup, each template must have a unique name.

3. Make applicable changes to the template.

important  The Textbooks template has several options and rules that do not apply to other templates. Read more… Textbook templates cannot be deleted, moved or duplicated. If you have the Complete Edition, you can create child templates, duplicate child templates and move child templates within the Textbooks branch.

• To designate a template as software, select the Represents software that can be assigned to... checkbox.
• To schedule preventive maintenance, select the Schedule preventive maintenance checkbox.
• To let Destiny to automatically transfer any checked-out items of this resource when you transfer the patron who checked them out, select the Checked out items... checkbox.
• To edit the depreciation information, in the Depreciation Information section, click .
• To edit the displayable name, in Displayable Name section, click .
• To add a field to the resource description using this template, in the General Resource Description Field section, click Add Field .
• To add field to the items using this template, in the Item-Specific Fields section, click Add Field.
• If you are modifying a software template, in the License/Media Fields section, click Add Field.
• To edit an existing field, find the field to edit and click .
• To delete an existing field, find the field to delete and click .

note You can only edit and delete fields that were added in the current template. Additionally, before you can edit or delete general description fields that are being used to build the displayable name, you must remove them from the Displayable Name definition.

4. When you finished modifying the template, you must click Save to save your changes.

Specifying depreciation information

If you want to monitor changes in your collection value, Destiny Resource Manager can calculate resource depreciation for you. To do this, you need to configure Depreciation Information for each resource type template. This includes entering the Depreciable Life and Depreciation Convention you want to use to depreciate the resources associated with each resource type template.

General Resource Description Fields

Information about your resources is divided into two parts: the first is the General Resource Description Fields. Much like a title record for a book captures the general information about a book (title, author, publisher, number of pages, etc.), the resource description captures the information that is common for all instances of a particular resource: what it is called (the displayable name), who manufactured it, how much it would normally cost to replace, and so forth.

The General Resource Description Fields that you define determine which fields are available when adding or editing resource descriptions for this type of resource.

Item-Specific Fields

Information about your resources is divided into two parts: the second is the Item-Specific Fields. Much like a copy record for a book captures the information about a specific copy of a book (barcode, purchase price, and so forth), the item-specific fields capture the information that is particular to one instance of a resource: its barcode, the date it was acquired, how much it actually cost, and so forth.

The Item-Specific Fields that you define determine which fields are available when adding or editing items for this type of resource.
